Launch of White Zinfandel issue no. 5 with edition sponsored by Paloma Powers, the Ace Hotel, New York City
On September 3, the latest issue of bi-annual publication White Zinfandel themed around "Shame" launched with a special event at the Ace Hotel in New York. The evening featured the performance "Interrupting Words with Burp Sounds (Music Score for Brass Instruments)" by artist Davide Balula staged with hidden trombone players, as well as his custom cocktails with flavors like garlic and rosemary. It was also the debut of Hands Off, a limited-edition glove set co-sponsored by Paloma Powers and the Shop at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. Hands Off was designed by With Projects to accompany the "Shame" issue, and were inspired by the classic white cotton mitts of art handlers but rendered in kid leather with NSFW adaptations more suited to an underground club in Berlin. (They proved so popular that someone even took a "five finger discount" on one pair! For shame, for shame...)
"Hands Off" is available for purchase at Project Number 8 at the Ace Hotel in NYC, and online at the Shop at Cooper Hewitt as well as at Artsy; White Zinfandel is available at Project Number 8, and online at their site.
Issue No. 5 Contributors include:

Paloma Powers in Artforum's Scene & Herd on Art Basel Hong Kong by David Velasco
It’s weird how things begin to blend together, even the new things. Is that Bernadette Corporation or K-Hole or upstart conceptual branding strategist Paloma Powers? “Paloma is our alibi,” says servant/mastermind Andrea Hill. “She’s scarier than Reena Spaulings. She’s a real terrorist bitch.” Paloma missed her connecting flight from Singapore, I’m told, but at the next day’s soft launch for her new office—furnishings by Shawn Maximo, Polycom sound track by Justin Simon—iPad proxies advertise her Twitter-friendly aphorisms: “When every surface becomes a screen, what do you want to stare back at you?” As with many such organizations, I’m not really sure what the Paloma Powers people do, precisely, but their fable has a certain stickiness and that’s maybe all that matters as we slide down the surface of things.
